It is the territory of the "gueules noires" (black mouths), these coal miners that are so important to the economic and social history of the 20th century.
It is a united corporation with a strong identity. The new museum in Carreau Wendel, "La Mine", is worth a visit just for itself. The way coal was extracted and the life of the whole community can be discovered by play in a realistic way.
In the same category, Völklinger Hütte, a steel mill that is registered at the Unesco World Heritage is worth a short visit to our neighbours in Germany. The site is fantastic. |
