| GR5g |
The rehabilitation of this walking path allows registering the Moselle as a stopover on the way to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle.
It comes from Germany and enters the Moselle in Stiring-Wendel and is nearly 70 kms long to Metz where it meets the GR5. The historic and industrial sites can be found along the first half of the route: Forbach, industrial town where traces of the Roman and Celtic times are still visible, Hombourg-Haut, a medieval town, Freyming-Merlebach, a former mining town, Saint-Avold, famous for its abbey and its American cemetery.
When you leave the coal basin and continue on the GR5g, you discover a rural landscape where nature keeps its nobility up to the gateway to Metz. There is also the Nied valley and the typical villages from Lorraine all the way along the route. From there, there are only 1920 kms left to reach Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle in the north of Spain. Good luck…

| GR5 |
The GR5 is a walk linking the North Sea and the Mediterranean, and it covers more than 200km in Moselle. It enters France in Volmerange-les-Mines and stays on the coast in Moselle all the way to Gorze where it gives the opportunity to walkers to discover the industrial Fensch and Orme valleys, the “Pays messin” and its hillsides with vineyards and orchards, which form beautiful panoramas over Metz and its surroundings. Following a small penetration into the “Pays de Nancy”, the GR5 meets the Moselle again in Bioncourt and enters the Regional Natural Park of Lorraine where the most beautiful historic and natural sites await the walkers: Vic-sur-Seille, Marsal, the pond of Lindre, Tarquimpol, the pond of Stock…
The GR5 then goes into the “Vosges mosellanes” and the village of Saint-Quirin, one of the most picturesque villages in France. Abreschviller is the last stop before accessing Donon from where the famous walk leaves the Moselle.
