The Metz Pompidou Centre, an architectural masterpiece designed by Shigeru Ban Architects (Japan) and Jean de Gastines (France) just a stone’s throw from the Metz TGV rail station, stands out first of all by its presence in the town. The impressive roof – a wood frame covered with a translucent membrane – combines aesthetic elegance and revolutionary technology. Playing on the relationship between indoor and outdoor, the spaces are laid out around a 77-metre-tall spire. The inaugural show, “Masterpieces?”, features nearly 800 works and takes place in all the exhibition spaces: almost 5,000m². It includes four sequences located in the four main display areas. The Metz Pompidou Centre invites visitors to celebrate its opening from Wednesday 12 to Sunday 16 May 2010. During the five-day open-house they will be able to discover the building’s spectacular architecture and the “Masterpieces?” exhibition free.
