GR5g

This new long-distance trail puts Moselle on the map as a stop on the way to Santiago de Compostela.

It starts in Germany and enters Moselle at Stiring-Wendel before stretching nearly 70 km to Metz, where it joins the GR5. Historic and industrial sites are along the first part of the trail: Forbach, an industrial city where traces of the Celts and Romans are still visible; Hombourg-Haut, a medieval town; Freyming-Merlebach, a former mining town; and Saint-Avold, famous for its abbey church and American cemetery. Then the GR5g leaves the coal fields behind and goes through a rural, natural landscape until Metz.

In the Nied Valley the trail passes through typical Lorraine villages until reaching Metz. There are just 1,920 kilometres to go before reaching Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain. Hang in there!
