The Moselle borders two French departments (the Bas-Rhin and Meurthe-et-Moselle), Germany (the Sarre and Rhineland-Palatinate) and Luxembourg, and is also near the Belgian border. It thus boasts an ideal location at the centre of major communication links (road, rail, river and air), providing easy access to all of the department's tourist attractions. Metz, which is the capital of both the Moselle and Lorraine, is one of the main cultural and tourist centres.
